Adults 21 and over will need to present a photo ID to receive a wristband for beer samples.\n\nWhat is the refund policy if I can’t attend?\nSylvan Heights Bird Park will provide a refund for event tickets up to 7 days before the event. Eventbrite’s ticket fees can not be refunded at any time. SUMMARY:Oyster Roast for the Birds
DESCRIPTION:You eat the oysters – the birds eat the shells! Our annual Oyster Roast returns on January 18\, 2025. The evening celebrates NC’s oyster season with all-you-can-eat oysters and shrimp\, as well as non-seafood and vegetarian dishes. Proceeds from ticket sales support the park’s conservation and education programs\, but the Oyster Roast also helps the birds in a much more immediate way. After the event\, the discarded oyster shells will be collected\, cleaned\, and placed in the aviaries to provide an important source of calcium for many of the park’s feathered residents throughout the breeding season. The day will also include a special event in memory of Mike Lubbock\, waterfowl conservationist and co-founder of Sylvan Heights Bird Park.\n\nSchedule of Events:\n11:00 am: Waterfowl Keeper Chat in the Sylvan Heights Visitor Center (Golden Leaf Room). Meet a Sylvan Heights Bird Keeper and learn about waterfowl!\n1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Ceremony in memory of Mike Lubbock\, co-founder of Sylvan Heights Bird Park\, at Toad Hall Pavilion\n2:30 pm: Waterfowl Keeper Chat in the Sylvan Heights Visitor Center (Golden Leaf Room). DESCRIPTION:Where swans fly and red wolves roam! Join Sylvan Heights birding guides on an adventure through Mattamuskeet and Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuges\, with a visit to the Red Wolf Center. Reservations may be made HERE.\n\nCome spend the day with Sylvan Heights Bird Park as we embark on a full day excursion exploring both Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge and Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in search of migrating waterfowl. Our team of educators will take you on a guided adventure to see large populations of ducks\, geese and swans that winter in eastern NC.\n\nIncluded in this adventure is a trip to the Red Wolf Center in Columbia\, NC to learn about the world’s most endangered wolf. Both red wolves and waterfowl share these habitats and this area offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.\n\nRAIN DATE: In the event of bad weather on January 11th\, this tour will be postponed until January 25th.\n\nWhat’s included:\n– Round-trip transportation from Sylvan Heights Bird Park in Scotland Neck\, NC– Guided tours of Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge and Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge.– A visit to the Red Wolf Center in Columbia\, NC– Snacks– Water\nLunch is not provided\, but we will be stopping at Martelle’s Feed House Restaurant in Engelhard\, NC where guests may purchase their own lunch.\n\nItinerary:\n– Depart from park @ 9:00am– Visit to Red Wolf Center for an organized program @ 10:30am (approximately)– Lunch at Martelle’s Feed House Restaurant @ 12:30pm (approximately)– Birdwatching at Mattamuskeet and the Pungo Unit of Pocosin Lakes NWR @ 1:30-5:30pm– Return to Sylvan @ 7:00pm\n\nWhat to bring:\n– Bird identification guides will be available\, however you are encouraged to bring your favorite guide.
