DESCRIPTION:The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is a proud partner of Wright Flight of Martin County\, NC. Wright Flight is a 501(c)(3) organization that targets every 6th grade student in Martin County. The curriculum\, which includes history of aviation\, is designed to encourage students to reach for the stars. In addition to learning about aviation\, each student has to sign a contract with their teacher\, agreeing to improve grades\, improve behavior or improve attendance…it’s all about setting goals and reaching those goals.\n\n\n\nAs a Tier 1 county\, Martin County has economic issues that we face daily; however\, with the support of our donors and the Martin County Airport Commission\, we are able to give Martin County kids a look at what life in the aviation industry looks like.\n\n\n\nAll Martin County 6th grade students will have the opportunity to experience Wright Flight Field Day. This allows students to view aircraft displays (thanks to our volunteers)\, have one-on-one interaction with local law enforcement and experience flight simulators from Elizabeth City State University. Field day is scheduled for Thursday April 3\, 2025 at the Martin County Airport. If you are free\, stop by and experience what our program is all about!\n\n\n\nEach student who successfully completes the program will return to the Martin County Airport for Wright Flight Fly Day on May 17th. On fly day each student\, with the parent or guardian of their choice\, gets their own personal flight around Martin County. We contract with local flight instruction schools which allows the students to actually take controls of the aircraft and fly it themselves…they actually get to pilot an aircraft!\n\n\n\nIf you would like more information on this program or would like to donate\, please call the Martin County Sheriff’s Office at 252-789-4500.
